I have made a decision...

Every time I ask the kids to do anything it's always a big fight. No one ever seems to listen to me and I get all upset, stressed out and excited.

The thing that really pisses me off is when I ask them to do something and their father happens to be around.

Me: Will you fold the clothes and put them away?

The kids look straight at their father to see if he is going to back up my order. Usually he isn't paying any attention what so ever because his eyes are glued to Aljazeera (but recently he's taken up watching that God awful Dr. Phil too). No response from dad means the kids can completely ignore me.

Obviously they think I have no authority in the house. So since this is the case I have decided to let them have their way and I informed Mustafa that he was now 'THE AUTHOURITY' in the house. I said, 'Honey, you are now holding the reigns. I will no longer ask any of the kids to do anything. It's not my job anymore.'

Now I feel much better. I can live a stress-free life!

  1. Yes dear Khadija and a right decision it is.
They're all responsible for their home it's not yours only. You should see how my house is spic and span when their friends come over! It gets to a point where I'm inviting them over !!!Now here's a good one THEY'RE TIRED!!

  3. Yes sis T, amazingly when the kids invite anyone, they clean up the entire house withouth me having to say a word!

recently I asked my son to carry the laundry basket down into the cellar - he refused. So I skipped laundry hours and next day he asked me, where his clean clothes are? I showed him the full basket. "Why didn´t you wash, Mum?", he asked me?
I told him: "Every time you or your sister refuses to help me when I ask you, I simply skip the work and wait again for next week." He looked at me in disbelief.
Tomorrow eve is laundry time in the cellar - let´s see what will happen...I am ready to do the same tomorrow, even if this means kids have to go to school in old clothes.

BTW, sis K, what is wrong with dear dr. Phil? He is marvellous!

  5. Excuse me Miss Khadija but this is not a solution. You are just hiding your head in the sand thinking you are safe. The best solution is TO CONFRONT in stead of sneaking away. Talk to your husband and be firm with the children. You're their mother after all.Believe me if things go wrong after your decision you won't be stress free.

  8. because Mr. Man here is a work a holic I am the authority here. The kids seek me out when he tells them to do something. They think they can play the game but I'm not allowing it. But your much deeper in at this point. You'll need to motivate your man to support your authority and teach those kids to understand they must listen to you. and this is one way to do it.

I would also skip out on doing any laundry.. can't put it away I certainly can't wash it. Laundry strikes.. I love 'em.

    - as if taken from dr. Phil from his show!
Again and again dr. Phil underlines the truth of consequences and the cooperation between parents when raising children.

  10. An Update!
Hubby is sure becoming tired of being the sole authority of the house. He finally managed to get the kids to wash the dishes. I heard the girls argueing with who's turn it was. When I got home from work today I found a clean kitchen.
